Mare

Mare was a sludge/doom band out of Toronto, Canada. They only lasted one ep and a melvins tribute song, which is quite a shame. As to be expected their self-titled ep contains heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars and monster riffs that blend into waves of chaos but that is not what makes this ep. The moments of calm on this cd are nothing but breathtaking. Imagine Sigur Ros getting in the fishtank with Isis in the eye of a hurricane. This is where vocalist Tyler Semrick-Palmateer shows his diversity and immense talent. One moment his voice is chilling and urgent screaming, the next he is bouncing along with an acoustic guitar and hazy melody. The instrumentation on this disc is also nothing but top notch. Jazzy strumming, complex picking, on beat drums, complex chaotic melodies. I can't recommend this disc highly enough to any fans of heavy music.
